COVID-19 and My Sorrows

Like me all soccer fans are in great sorrow due to the delay on the Premier League and all other European soccer competitions because of the COVID-19 virus. Manchester United was on a roll and doing well in all European competitions and the Premier League leading up to the COVID-19 outbreak. Its been nearly 3 weeks since the “delay” was put in place in Premier League stopping all play till April 4th (You can read about the delay on CNBC). When you look at that date you think oh that’s not that bad, but when you look at the course that the virus is taking and the rate it is spreading at I think that they will delay of the league will be even longer; and the cancellation of the league is even more likely than another delay. With that being said, it does brings one positive… if they are going to cancel the Premier league Liverpool will not win the league and failing to win their first league title, so that’s a plus. But in all seriousness I do see the reasoning behind delay and the possible cancellation of the league. It is crucial that we fight this virus and make sure to slow the spread of the virus, and the measures the Premier League and other European competitions put into place makes sense for the safety of the people and players.

But this is a soccer blog about Manchester United and we need to discuss the 2-0 win over Manchester United’s cross town rivals Manchester City on March 8th, 2020. My first thoughts are just wow; this win over our cross town rivals is a testament to Ole Gunner Solskjear’s brilliance. This win means that we have beaten Manchester City in all competitions this season, which in years past has been a difficult thing for any club to accomplish. The game was an exciting one from start to finish, Manchester United scored a wonder goal off a set piece involving Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Martial. Fernandes did a cheeky chip over the wall and Martial took it on the volley and put it pass the Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson. It was a wonderful set piece and should be put up for goal of the year. The game was a constant back and forth from then on till the second half. In the second half it seemed to be all Manchester City but Manchester United stood vigilant and thwarted Manchester Cities attacks. At the end of the game Ederson made a huge error and gave the ball away around half field to Scott McTominay and he put it in the back of the net ending any chances Manchester City had to coming back. The game was a phenomenal one and is proof and hope that Manchester United is on the way back to the top of the league where they belong.
